About Soiland Materials
Serving Sonoma County and the North Bay for more than 60 years
In 1962, our founder, Marv Soiland — Navy veteran, engineer, and natural problem solver — started this company with one employee, a rented truck, and $3,000 in seed money. His vision was straightforward and timeless: build better and build with integrity. What began as a small pipeline construction business in Sonoma County was rooted in grit, discipline, and a refusal to accept that “good enough is good enough.” That mindset still guides us today.
Marv’s early career shaped who we are. After serving in the U.S. Navy in the 1940s and again during the Korean War, and working in heavy equipment training and sales, he returned home determined to create something lasting. While building underground utilities across the North Bay, he saw firsthand how inconsistent quarry materials caused costly delays and compromised results. Rather than tolerate the problem, he chose to solve it.
In 1973, he purchased Stony Point Rock Quarry to secure control over the quality of aggregates used in roads, bridges, and major infrastructure projects throughout the region. The quarry became known for durable basalt rock, dependable supply, and environmentally conscious practices — earning the trust of contractors and public agencies across the North Bay.
As we grew, so did our understanding of the connection between strong infrastructure and healthy landscapes. That insight led us to expand into soil, compost, and mulch production, creating a more complete materials company. Today, under the leadership of Mark Soiland, Marv’s youngest son, that vision has continued to evolve while staying true to its roots.
Mark’s commitment is grounded in keeping our business family-owned and locally owned, producing locally sourced materials for the North Bay and serving the communities that have supported us for generations. Under his leadership, we have strengthened our environmental practices, expanded recycling and sustainable operations, and reinforced partnerships throughout the region. Our long-standing commitment to sustainability ensures that every material we deliver supports durability, ecological health, and community prosperity.
As part of that forward-looking vision, we unified all our operations under one name in 2026: Soiland Materials. Bringing everything together under a single banner reflects consistency and shared purpose. Our updated logo — a simple material pile set at the natural angle of repose — symbolizes the very materials we handle every day and the thoughtful balance between engineered performance and environmental integrity.
We operate four locations, each equally important in supporting sustainable building and growth across the region:
Stony Point Rock Quarry in Cotati produces high-quality basalt aggregate and innovative rock products for infrastructure, commercial construction, and public works projects throughout the North Bay.
Soils Plus in Sonoma specializes in custom-blended soils and offers its signature native brown aggregates for commercial landscaping, vineyards, and residential projects, turning local resources into productive growing media.
Green Recycling Center focuses on diverting green debris from landfills — receiving branches, wood, and organic materials from homeowners and contractors and recycling them into valuable agricultural and garden products such as compost, mulch, and soil amendments.
Yard & Garden, our newest location, provides convenient access to soils, compost, mulch, gravel, sand, and decorative rock for homeowners, landscapers, and small contractors.
